"The mission of Anchor of Hope homeless ministry of Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church is to minister to the physical and spiritual needs of the homeless by assisting and supporting them in transitioning to a productive and self supportive lifestyle."
"To eliminate homeless in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and nurture self-sustaining citizenship. To provide and/or have access to transitional housing and accompanying resources to prepare members of the homeless community for permanent housing."
Ministry Bible Verse
""He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God."
(Proverbs 14:31 (NIV))
""Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help."
(Isaiah 58:7 (New Living Translation))
Anchor of Hope, the Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church (GMCHC) Homeless ministry is actively engaging in the lives of the homeless in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area toward the goal of preparing the homeless for self-sufficiency. We believe that by collaborating with GMCHC ministries and other churches and organizations that support the homeless in the Washington, D.C. area, we can better advance our mutual goals.
To carry out our mission, we engage in outreach activities to minister to the immediate needs (food, clothing, blankets, toiletries, etc.) of the homeless. We also partner with such organizations as the Fannie Mae Walk-a-Thon, Gifts for the Homeless, Downtown Cluster of Congregations and other organizations, to build a repository of resources for the homeless. Our goal is to be a leader in sponsoring and/or supporting a regional-wide Homeless Summit toward the goal of determining how the issues of the homeless can be better managed on a regional wide basis.
We are looking forward to the blessings of the Lord upon this ministry as we continue to do God’s work. We extend an invitation to you to come join us as we seek to rebuild the lives of those homeless children of God, who are often overlooked and ignored.
This is their time!
